Observation Tower

I was tasked with designing an observation tower in a South Dakota park. The design puts the user right above the treetop, creating a nostalgic treehouse feel. The lower level provides accessibility to people who are unable to walk to the top, while an upper 50 foot level appeals to children. The use of wood mirrors the surrounding trees.

Typical observation towers are static and do not compliment the surround nature. Focusing on biophilic design, The visitor deserves an experience that feels like they’re climbing the trees themselves.

Placed above the treetops, each landing invites the visitor to personally experience nature. Additionally, the design invokes feelings of nostalgia, reminding visitors of their childhood playing in treehouses.
